Low-cost digital radio broadcasting technology was pioneered here in Brighton & Hove over the last decade by the Co-founders of OpenDAB Brighton & Hove. We now intend to apply to the Broadcasting regulator Ofcom in 2024 for a full ‘broadcast multiplex’ licence - ahead of upgrading coverage across our unique city.
OpenDAB Brighton & Hove proposes to offer radio transmission to up to 26 existing and new radio services by the end of the year.
We bring together broadcast professionals who have lived and breathed radio in Brighton & Hove over three decades, with the specialist knowledge and expertise that created the UK’s first small scale digital radio test and trial services.
We have the ability to deploy a cost effective and robust broadcast local infrastructure that takes into account the technical complexities of digital broadcast radio transmission at a sustainable cost.
OpenDAB Brighton & Hove is a Community Interest Company - asset locked to ensure that it will never be sold out to corporate media operators and cost oriented to ensure that prices are kept affordable with any surplus reinvested into maintaining and improving digital radio in the city.
